Disaster Management
The Challenge
Bangalore due to its favourable location and planning has never had to face any grave disaster before. This means that we are very poorly equipped to deal with sudden source of distress. The COVID19 pandemic came as a sudden shock and our systems were very unprepared to deal with the same.
Our Intervention
Our incredible community has always actively worked towards supporting people affected by disaster. Our community contributed immensely to rehabilitate families affected by the floods of 2011 in Kodagu and Kerala.
During the COVID19 pandemic, through analysis we realized how poorly equipped we were to deal with disasters and so we have taken up active steps to face upcoming disasters.
- We provide training to volunteers for disaster response and recovery.
- We have established strong communication systems that help us disseminate the right information to the people living in fringe areas.
- We have formed an inter specialisation advisory committee that helps us consider all aspects of disaster response, recovery and rehabilitation.
- During the Covid Pandemic, it took a heavy toll in Bangalore , the very real problem was the burial of the people who die of the infection. Our organization has created a volunteer group called “Here I am” and assisted with around 1996 burials and as Funeral Squad team to help the families perform last rites.Along with these out team collaborated with other NGOs and assisted with 1700 more Burials.
