Environment
The Challenge
Bangalore, once touted to be the “Garden City of India” , has now become the “IT Capital of India”. With the change in names, came a large scale felling of trees to make way for more infrastructure. As a result, temperatures in the city has increased by a whopping 24% since the 1991 economic reforms. Land is continuously being used to accommodate high rise buildings and transport infrastructure to provide housing and mobility to its 20 million inhabitants, reducing its green cover further.
Our Intervention
- We work to increase consciousness about the environment among the community and seek their participation in ensuring a greener tomorrow.
- We tie up with experts in the field who help us assess the risk of identified areas and work with us to chart the best course of action.
- We create close to 10,00,000 seed balls annually which are dispersed across Bangalore. We work with close to 1000 farmers annually, inculcating best and organic farming practices.
- We champion proper waste disposal and solid waste management in the community.
- We work actively with Local Governments and communities to bring about ground level change.
- We prevent use of single use plastic and encourage recycling at the grassroots.
